Bon JournalMy Big Fat Greek WeddingThe second most exciting thing to do in this small Dutch village is to visit the local video/DVD rental store (open Monday to Saturday until 9 pm) and rent movies. I've always wanted to see "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." And like so many other wedding and music movies, this one did not disappoint. Nia Vardalos wrote the script about her wedding and acted in it. Her real life husband Ian Gomez appeared as the best friend of her movie bridegroom. All in all, it was a lot of fun ---- and very funny too. I loved the way Nia appeared initially without make up - and very plain. She looked like a spinster with no hope. Slowly she gets transformed, through good make-up and gains the self-confidence to attract the person who stole her heart in the beginning. Greek families are not so dissimilar to Chinese families. My mother's side of the family is one extended clan. There's always something cooking in the kitchen, and my grandmother's house is always occupied --- never a quiet moment. When it comes to weddings, however, the Greeks sure know how to dance! 28 February 2004 Saturday |
